Crush washer direction. The smaller opening with the edge on it goes on the drain plug. The bigger flat side of the washer makes contact with the oil pan. Notched side against the plug. That's a nissan crush washer for oil drain bolt. Notch side should face rhe bolt abd wider side to the pan. That looks pre crushed.

The "crush washer" honda uses is just an aluminum washer, which crushes down a little, but is still good. Once it starts crushing any further tightening is just turning into a flat washer. Rear diff torque spec is 17 with a crush washer... sounds good to me.

I always thought that the crush washers were directional. I always put the rounded side towards the bolt.
