Key lock in ignition switch

1980 450SLC replaceing ignition lock and switch - got tech article which works perfectly up until picture 23 button release and lock removal. Button seems to not clear and cannot seem to get it to hold down and, cannot get a wrench on the lock to remove it. HELP! How do I reach and force the darn thing out.
